Car's Type Identifier Code and Temporary License Plate

Car's Type Identifier Code (CTI) is a letter that show the type of car you own. Cars are divided into several types :

• Sedan (A)
• Minibus (K, F, or V)
• Jeep (J)
• Hatchback (K,F, or V)
• Truck (D)

Temporary License Plate

If you just bought new cars, the Identification Document (STNK) won't be released in a short time.  It means your car doesn't have both identification document and license plate. Usually, the dealer will assist you (if you plan to use that car) by giving a temporary travel letter (Surat Jalan sbg pengganti STNK) and a temporary license plate. This plate last only a month and consists of a temporary Number and Letter Sequences which will be changed as soon as you get the Identification Document and the real license plate. 

Even though you can still drive your car, however, if you have insurance on your new car, you can't claim for it when you have incident such as hitting another car/object which damage your car. It implies so because you still don't have a true Identification Document. Moreover, in the traffic rule, actually, the car which only have a temporary license plate can't be driven outside the region of your residence. So, make sure, if you want to drive your new car which documents are yet to release, drive safely and don't drive it far outside you residence.

The temporary license plate has this pattern (for Jadetabek)

• B NNNN xMY
• B NNNN xMR

• B NNNN L (for Semi Truck)   

 B : The Provincial Code for Jadetabek area
 N : Temporary registration number, these numbers always consist of four digits
 x :   Region Code
 MY, MR,MZ,ZY,ZM,JZ,ZZ : two random letters sequence indicating that your car hasn't got a fix license plate and identification document
for semi truck vehicles, only has one last letter, but the number starts from 9000-9999

  Another thing is that, for the car bought in this last two months (November-December 2012) will have this month-year sequence that last for a month : 11-12 and 12-12
